Flight Hydration Planner
Stay hydrated and feel your best during air travel.
Calculate Your Hydration Needs
Airplane cabins have very low humidity levels, typically less than 20%, which is drier than the Sahara Desert! This dry air pulls moisture from your body with every breath you take. Your body also loses water through your skin.
This dehydration can lead to headaches, fatigue, dizziness, and a weakened immune system, making you more susceptible to germs circulating in the cabin. Proactively drinking water is one of the best things you can do for your health while flying.
Tips for Staying Hydrated in the Air
1. Bring Your Own Bottle
Bring an empty reusable water bottle through security and fill it up at a water fountain before you board. This ensures you have water on hand and aren't reliant on the limited in-flight service.
2. Ask for Water
Don't be shy about asking the flight attendants for water. They are usually happy to refill your bottle or provide you with extra cups.
3. Add Electrolytes
For long flights, consider adding an electrolyte powder or tablet to your water. This can help your body absorb the water more efficiently and replace lost minerals.
4. Limit Diuretics
Avoid or limit alcohol and caffeine, as they can increase urine output and contribute to dehydration. For every alcoholic or caffeinated drink, have an extra glass of water.
