Audio Normalizer Calculator

Calculate the gain needed to bring your audio to a target loudness level.

Loudness Levels (LUFS)

Apply this much gain to your audio to meet the target loudness.

Understanding Audio Normalization

Audio normalization is the process of adjusting the volume of a piece of audio to a standard level. This prevents listeners from having to constantly adjust the volume when listening to different tracks or sources. The modern standard for measuring loudness is LUFS (Loudness Units Full Scale).

Why LUFS?

Unlike older peak-based measurements (like dBFS), LUFS is designed to measure perceived loudness, which is much closer to how the human ear actually experiences sound. This is why major streaming platforms like Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music all use LUFS to normalize the audio on their platforms.

Common Loudness Targets

Different platforms have different target levels. Here are a few common examples:

  • Spotify: -14 LUFS
  • Apple Music: -16 LUFS
  • YouTube: -14 LUFS
  • Netflix: -27 LUFS (for dialogue)

This tool helps you figure out exactly how much gain (volume) to add or remove from your audio to hit your desired target. Simply measure your audio's current integrated loudness using a LUFS meter in your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), input it into the calculator, set your target, and get the precise adjustment needed.
